The Purpose of BBCL

Our History

BBCL was built on the foundation laid in the 1990s by Shahazada Saleem, one of the pioneers of cricket in New Jersey. At a time when the game was just beginning to find its place here, he created a community where players could gather, compete, and share their love of the sport. That legacy is the heartbeat of BBCL today — we honor the past by building a stronger, more united future for cricket in America.

Our Mission

We are more than just a league. We are a brotherhood of cricketers committed to bringing back the respect, honor, and spirit of the gentleman’s game. In an era where amateur cricket has too often become fractured, overly aggressive, or driven by short-term wins, BBCL stands for something higher.

We believe in:

  • Fairness – Every team, every player, every decision made with integrity.

  • Respect – For the game, for the opposition, for officials, and for one another.

  • Brotherhood – A sense of belonging, where members lift each other up and represent the best of our cricketing community.

  • Excellence – Raising the standard of amateur cricket in the U.S. and showing what true competition should look like.

Our Standard

BBCL is the new age of cricket in America. We demand high standards of behavior, fairness, and sportsmanship. Teams and captains who cannot uphold these values do not belong in BBCL. This is not exclusion — it is a commitment to protect the spirit of cricket and ensure that those who join us are part of something bigger than themselves.

Our Vision

We are building a future where BBCL represents the gold standard of amateur cricket in the U.S. — where competition is fierce but fair, where rivalries are spirited but respectful, and where every member takes pride in being part of a league that is restoring cricket to its rightful place as the gentleman’s game.

Together, as players, captains, and teams, we are BBCL. And together, we are shaping the future of cricket in America.
