BBCL Charter of Values

The New Age of Cricket in America

Our Heritage

BBCL honors the vision of its founder, Shahazada Saleem, who first began building the cricket community in New Jersey in the 1990s. He laid the foundation for what cricket in this region could be — not just games played on weekends, but a true cricketing culture rooted in respect, competition, and togetherness. BBCL exists to carry that torch forward.

Our Core Values

1. Respect for the Game

  • We uphold cricket as the gentleman’s game.

  • Players, captains, umpires, and fans are treated with dignity at all times.

  • Disputes are resolved fairly, without hostility, and in the spirit of cricket.

2. Brotherhood & Community

  • BBCL is more than matches — it is a brotherhood of players who share a bond through cricket.

  • We welcome diversity and celebrate the unifying power of the game.

  • Every member carries a responsibility to lift others, creating a culture of belonging.

3. Fairness & Integrity

  • Matches are played and decisions are made with honesty and transparency.

  • Cheating, manipulation, or behavior that undermines the game has no place in BBCL.

  • Captains lead with integrity and set the standard for their teams.

4. Excellence in Competition

  • We compete hard, but fair.

  • Every team strives to elevate the standard of amateur cricket in America.

  • Preparation, discipline, and skill are valued as much as passion and fight.

5. Leadership & Responsibility

  • Captains are the custodians of BBCL’s values. They are expected to model respect, fairness, and discipline for their teams.

  • Teams and captains who cannot uphold these values will not belong in BBCL. This is not exclusion; it is protection of our standard.

  • Leadership in BBCL is about building the game, not just winning matches.

6. Growth of the Game

  • BBCL is committed to inspiring the next generation of cricketers.

  • We support youth development, community involvement, and the growth of cricket across America.

  • Our success is measured not only in trophies, but in the strength of the cricketing community we leave behind.

Our Commitment

By joining BBCL, every player, captain, and team commits to upholding this Charter of Values. These are not just words on paper — they are the standard of behavior and competition we expect every member to live by.

BBCL is a league, but more than that, it is a movement: a return to respect, a raising of standards, and the creation of something bigger than any one individual or team.

We are BBCL.
We are the new age of cricket in America.
